Region’s tech sector needs more investment, says ‘godfather of Silicon Valley’

The legendary concentration of technology innovators that is Silicon Valley was created by a series of happy accidents that nobody could have planned, and it’s a model that is difficult to duplicate, says a leading expert on California’s tech sector.

There are now an estimated 1,000 tech companies in Waterloo Region employing 30,000 people and creating about $30 billion a year in goods and services. During the past 10 years, hundreds of startups have been launched; many have prospered into thriving companies, including Vidyard, Clearpath Robotics, Thalmic Labs, Magnet Forensics and Kik.
