Local crafter taps into cider renaissance

Kegs and bottles of cider are packed into the back of Mike Kramar’s pickup truck as he eases his way through the busy streets of downtown Toronto for weekly deliveries.

Kramar started KW Craft Cider 14 months ago in rented space on Colby Court in Waterloo. Born and raised in Toronto, Kramar located his business in Waterloo because he fell in love with the area while working as a consulting engineer for a couple of local manufacturers.

In Ontario, the cider market is about three per cent as large as the beer market. There is lots of room for growth and Kramar plans to get his share of it. He is expanding his operation into an additional 500 square feet of space so he will have more storage.
