Oregon to debut mileage-based gas tax, helped by Waterloo company Intelligent Mechatronic Systems

A Waterloo-based company is helping the state of Oregon implement a new voluntary program that will tax drivers based on distance driven, instead of a flat gas tax.

The DriveSync device created by Intelligent Mechatronic Systems can plug into any car. In Oregon, volunteer drivers will use this to track their mileage and pay taxes based on distance and usage. Intelligent Mechatronic Systems is helping the state of Oregon implement a new voluntary program that will tax drivers based on distance driven, instead of a flat gas tax.
