The University of Waterloo will offer a new degree in biomedical engineering from Fall 2014 that closes the gap between medicine and engineering. The new undergraduate program will be housed in the Faculty of Engineering’s Department of Systems Design Engineering and will build on Waterloo’s foundation of leadership in experiential education, engineering and technology.
The unique curriculum will have a strong focus on the modeling and design of biomedical systems that will be used to develop new technologies and engineering solutions to health-related problems.
While other Canadian institutions offer biomedical engineering, the Waterloo Engineering program has a substantial design component that differentiates it from other universities.
“There will be a design course each term that focuses on the biomedical, biomechanics and biodevice themes,” said Paul Fieguth, chair of Systems Design Engineering
