Waterloo Region’s tech startups have a new $1-million investment fund to chase — but first they’ll have to convince Wilfrid Laurier University’s business students their ideas are worth the money.
Thanks to a donation from Laurier graduate and angel investor Mike Stork, the university has launched a unique program where students will decide if they’ll take risks on local entrepreneurs, with real money on the line.
Stork’s been investing in local tech startups for about a decade through his family’s investment fund, F.J. Stork Holdings. Prior to that, he was a senior manager at Unitron Industries, his family’s Kitchener-based hearing aid manufacturer.
