BlackBerry 10 gets NATO approval for classified communications

BlackBerry says its BlackBerry 10 smartphones and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 have received approval from NATO for use in classified communications up to the level of “restricted.

The company said certification of BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 by NATO, the defence network for 28 European and North American countries, is a significant milestone that assures security conscious organizations that data handled by BlackBerry 10 smartphones is secured and encrypted.

The fact that BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 and BlackBerry 10 smartphones have been approved for classified communications just months after debut, is testament to the thoroughness of its design and our commitment to our defense and government customers,” Scott Totzke, the company’s senior vice-president of security said.
