A sector of the local economy garnering an increasing level of attention is agriculture and food processing.
Waterloo Region, like most of southwestern Ontario, is home to a strong primary agriculture base supported by food processing and manufacturing.
According to government and non-government sources, the Ontario agriculture and agri-food sector is now the province’s number one employer, potentially generating $40 billion in revenues by the end of 2013.
Locally, there are more than 1,400 farms and 100 food processors and distributors that will benefit.
