Janet Peddigrew, vice-president of BMO for midwestern Ontario, sees lots of positives from the report.
“Even through the economic challenges we’ve had, we’ve been outperforming the Ontario average and southwestern Ontario,” she said in a conference call to discuss the report.
Based on conversations with local business owners, she said they are “feeling cautiously optimistic” about a rebound in the U.S. economy and the potential for exports there.
Tech startup activity is vigorous in the region and despite the layoffs at BlackBerry, the release of the Z10 smartphone is triggering new momentum from apps developers and suppliers, Peddigrew said.
