In fine Waterloo Region style, Canada’s Technology Triangle Inc and our Co-Hosts from the Waterloo Region, cities, and townships hosted our first International Reception & Dinner on Thursday, December 3, 2009. The sold-out event was another successful CTT Ambassador initiative.

In CTT’s ongoing effort to showcase what the Region of Waterloo has to offer the world, Consul officials from over a dozen countries started the day on a Familiarization Tour (FAM Tour) in Cambridge Ontario.

After introductions at the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, guests were chauffeured in style by Brentwood Livery, to Rimowa.  A tour of the luggage maker’s facility included seeing a piece made from scratch, which was later raffled off at the dinner.

Along the way to dinner, our International guests also visited the Conrad Centre for Performing Arts, The UW School of Pharmacy, the Accelerator Centre and Sybase…talk about showcasing the creativity and talent of our Region!

Throughout the evening local government officials, businesspeople and many stakeholders from a cross section of Waterloo Region mingled with Consul Officials from across the world.  True to Waterloo Region’s spirit of hospitality, our international guests were treated very well, with drinks, networking, and dinner (deliciously prepared by The Waterloo Inn Conference Hotel). Thomas Homer-Dixon, Chair of Global Systems at the Centre for International Governance Innovation and an environment professor at the University of Waterloo engaged the audience with a frank discussion on climate change.  Guests were made aware of the environmental issues that currently affect all of us, and what’s in store if we choose to ignore the reality of climate issues.

This grand affair was made possible by CTT’s many generous Partner’s and Sponsors (listed below). We would also like to extend a thank you to the Department of Foreign Affairs & International Trade Canada and Invest Canada – Community Initiatives (ICCI) – as this project was made possible in part thanks to their support.
